本次事件發生在第四節 8 分 28 秒時，Jayson Tatum 切入禁區遭到兩名魔術球員防守，遭到 Kentavious Caldwell-Pope 直接扯掉破壞，Tatum 便失去平衡重摔在地，右手腕似乎也因撐地造成不適，經裁判檢視後升級為一級惡意犯規。
當下看到 Jayson Tatum 受傷倒在地上，原本塞爾提克防護員要立刻去了解傷勢情況，但卻遭到教頭 Joe Mazzulla 阻止，他告訴訓練員不要過去，然後大聲喊：「站起來！」之後 Jayson Tatum 則一人回到板凳區休息。
